If you plan well before going out, changing your pouch shouldn't cause you any more inconvenience than it does at home. However, unexpected situations do occur and it's good to be prepared.

If leakage happens...
If leakage does happen when in a public setting, it is an inconvenient situation. But you can take some of the stress out of the situation by preparing yourself ahead of time, just in case. What will you say, if the situation requires you to tell someone? Knowing what to say will ease your concerns. Simply explain that you have a medical condition and you need access to a restroom. You may need additional assistance, e.g. towels, plastic bag, etc.
People should be more than willing to offer you the assistance you need.
Have a friend on 'speed dial'
It can be extremely helpful to have a friend, or a relative, that knows about your ostomy, on call in case something unexpected happens.
