Are you suffering from faecal incontinence or chronic constipation? Meet Peristeen Plus transanal irrigation system - a treatment option that can help relieve your condition and give you improved quality of life.

This transanal irrigation system is a simple and easy procedure designed to promote the evacuation of a portion of the bowel efficiently. This proactive method to bowel management, gives confidence and control through effective and predictable prevention of faecal incontinence and constipation.

Peristeen Plus and transanal irrigation: what you need to know

Transanal irrigation (TAI) is a procedure for emptying the bowels and is an alternative to other methods such as laxatives, suppositories, manual evacuation and stimulation. Transanal irrigation is intended for patients who suffer from constipation and faecal incontinence and reduces the need for time-consuming bowel management procedures.

Transanal irrigation using Peristeen Plus is intended to instill lukewarm water between 34-40 degrees celsius into the colon using a rectal catheter, while sitting on the toilet.

The amount of water needed for the irrigation is individual. Usually 300-1000 mL is sufficient. As water is introduced into your colon, it promotes the evacuation of contents in the lower colon.

Key benefits of using Peristeen Plus

Regularly irrigating your bowels with water using Peristeen Plus is effective and efficient but it may take time to settle into a good routine that works for you and your body. It may take your body a while to adjust to a new bowel management method. The best results will only be achieved when using Peristeen Plus on a regular basis. As compared with conservative bowel management, Peristeen Plus significantly:

  • Reduces symptoms of constipation or fecal incontinence for up to 2 days
  • Improves quality of life
  • Reduces daily time spent on bowel management
  • Establishes a predictable pattern for emptying your bowel
  • Offers freedom to decide where and when to to irrigate for a more predictable bowel control
  • Sets the standards for bowel management

As it only requires water, Peristeen Plus is an effective alternative to other bowel management methods which call for the use of medication. It can be administered on your own or with assistance and enables you to decide when and where you want to empty your bowel. Used routinely, daily or every other day, it can enable you to gain more control of your bowel management, improving your overall symptom-related quality of life.
