How to clean your child's Peristeen® Plus Transanal Irrigation System

Cleaning your child's Peristeen Plus system after irrigation is easy. Learn how to take good care of your system.

Dispose of the balloon catheter with normal household waste. Do not flush the catheter down the toilet.

Rinsing and cleaning

With the exception of the single-use catheter, all components can be washed in mild soapy water as needed. The strap can be washed in warm water (60°C) and hung to dry. The tube with the turquoise connector can be replaced if it becomes soiled. It is not necessary to disassemble the system before cleaning the external surfaces.

The tubing can be cleaned by turning the knob on the control unit to the water symbol and pumping the excess water out of the tube. The tube with the blue connector can be replaced if it becomes soiled.

Call your Coloplast® Care Advisor at 1-866-293-6349 if you need a replacement tube.

The internal surfaces of the tubes, control unit and water bag lid, including the suction pipe, can be cleaned by the following procedure:

  1. Unlock the connector from the catheter.
  2. Flip the lid to open the water bag and fill it to the top with mild soapy water.
  3. Close the lid by clicking it into place.
  4. Turn the knob on the control unit to the turquoise water symbol and pump the water through the tubing into a sink until the water bag is empty.

Repeat this procedure twice with clean tap water to remove all of the soap. Then, unlock the connector from the lid and follow the drying procedure (as described below).

Drying

Hanging the water bag and tubes over the taps in your bath or shower for an hour after each irrigation will help you avoid black stains.

  1. Unlock the connector from the lid of the water bag.
  2. Flip the lid to open the water bag and pour excess water out.
  3. Keep the lid open and leave the water bag upside down to dry for at least 1 hour.
  4. Drain the rest of the system by placing the control unit with connected tubes over the sink and turn the knob to the finish and storage symbol.

Storage

All components should be stored at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. Ensure the tubes are not kinked when stored.
